The Mediterranean climate of Crete boasts hot, sunny summer weather, followed by particularly mild and inviting winters. Crete is one of the most sunny parts of Greece and is islands enjoys more than 300 days of sunny weather every single year.

Although the thermometer sees averages of around 30°C / 86°F in the height of summer Crete can experience highs soaring to 40°C / 104°F or more. Thankfully, the climate is often cooled down by the arrival of the 'meltemi' breezes, which also sweep across eastern Greece and adjacent Aegean Islands.

These spells of windy weather quickly reduce any humidity, although it can drastically affect ferry timetables, causing delays at times. There is also the possibility of further 'sirocco' winds in Crete, anytime between May and August, which are know to blow sand over from as far away as Africa.
